Arcula Canora

The members of the ensemble "Arcula Canora" met during their studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and have performed at events such as the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht and the Görwihler Kultursommer. The ensemble aims to dedicate itself particularly to the interpretation of music from the 17th and 18th centuries, employing a historically informed performance practice. The name of the ensemble, "Arcula Canora," is Latin and can be translated as "resonant treasure chest." It is inspired by the so-called "cabinets of curiosities" of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. These were small chests or cabinets in which small treasures, valuable art objects, expensive instruments, or simply curious mementos were collected. Similarly, the ensemble seeks to bring to life musical treasures, nearly forgotten compositions, or simply cherished musical memories, delving into the music, the people, and their stories.

In addition to their chamber music activities, the ensemble members perform across Europe with leading early music ensembles such as the Dutch Bach Society, LaCetra Baroque Orchestra & Vocal Ensemble Basel, Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, B’rock Orchestra, and Vox Luminis.
